Tinsel has been a long festive Christmas tradition since 1610 when it originated from Nuremberg. Tinsel originally made from strands of silver was used as a Christmas decoration to enhance the flickering of the candles on the tree and to represent the starry sky over a Nativity scene.
As silver ages fairly quickly people started using other metallic forms of tinsel, Fools Gold was a popular choice but as it was fragile and costly it was only used in small quantities and only very wealthy people could afford it to fully decorate their tree.
Now times have moved on and more and more people are creating their own handmade Christmas tinsel again using dollar bills and Origami. its cheaper, more beautiful, more memorable and can be reused after the festive season or stored away for years to come.
